Dr. Carol Root is the Clinical Manager of the Chrysalis Centre. Having completed her master’s degree and doctorate in the School and Child Clinical Psychology Program at the Ontario Institute for Studies in Education/ UT, Dr. Root is a respected psychologist with almost 20 years of clinical experience. She has worked as a staff psychologist for the Hospital for Sick Children Neuropsychiatry Team, Kinark Child and Family Services, and the Centre for Addiction and Mental Health, and as a psychological consultant for research projects, day treatment programs, residential facilities, and to school staff and community mental health professionals. Over the years, Dr. Root has provided clinical supervision and training to numerous psychology students, interns, psychiatry residents, and mental health agencies. Since 2010, she has served as the consulting psychologist to the Behaviour Stabilization and Consultation Team at Kinark, who have provided therapeutic support to parents, CAS foster caregivers, and residential home staff to develop an enhanced capacity to meet the needs of multi-risk children and youth.
Dr. Root takes a strength-based approach with all of her clients, specializing in psycho-educational, psycho-diagnostic evaluations, and therapeutic interventions (including integrative, cognitive-behavioural, behavioural management, and family systems approaches) with children, adolescents, parents, and families. Her areas of expertise include learning styles/disabilities, giftedness, attention and impulsivity problems, depression, anxiety, social/behavioural difficulties, school adjustment, and parenting concerns. She is an accredited member of the College of Psychologists of Ontario and the Ontario Psychological Association.
