The Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) Team at Chrysalis Centre


Chrysalis Centre introduces its newly formed Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) team which provides diagnostic evaluations to assess for ASD. Our skilled and experienced professionals undertake comprehensive psychological assessments and work with the child, the family, as well as with other professionals in order to investigate and clarify the child’s strengths and challenges. We employ 'gold standard' measures (e.g., ADI-R, ADOS-2, CARS) in order to be effective in assisting families. We can help the family with treatment planning as well as with educational planning. We see children (as young as 3 years of age) and adults.

Dr. Monica Apostol, Ph.D., C.Psych.
Dr. Monica Apostol is a Child and Adolescent Psychologist, licensed to practice within the area of School Psychology and Clinical Psychology. She completed her Master and Doctorate degrees in School and Clinical Child Psychology program at the University of Toronto (OISE). At the Chrysalis Centre, Dr. Apostol provides comprehensive psychoeducational and psychodiagnostic assessments of children and adolescents with various learning and behavioural profiles. Over the years of her practice, she has taken a particular interest in the field of ASD, pursuing additional training. Dr. Apostol takes a comprehensive approach to psychoeducational or psychological assessments using a strength-based philosophy.  Currently, Dr. Apostol also works as a School Psychologist at the Toronto District School Board. She is a Member-at-Large in the Council of the Section on Psychology in Education of the Ontario Psychological Association. Previously, Dr. Apostol had worked at the Hospital for Sick Children (Child Development Centre), Accessibility Services of the University of Toronto, and Oshawa Psychological and Counselling Services.


Dr. Megan Brunet, Ph.D., C.Psych. (Supervised Practice)
Dr. Megan Brunet earned her M.A. and Ph.D. in School and Clinical Child Psychology at the Ontario Institute for Studies in Education of the University of Toronto. She is currently on the temporary registry with the College of Psychologist of Ontario and is a member of the Ontario Psychology Association. She completed her internship at Surrey Place Centre where she primarily worked with children with Autism and their families to complete both assessments and interventions. In her current work as a Psychologist within the Toronto Catholic District School Board, Dr. Brunet provides a variety of services, including assessment, counselling, and consultation for elementary and secondary schools. She also works in the community with children and adolescents aged 2 to 18, as well as their families, to address a variety of complex issues including anxiety, depression, ADHD, learning disabilities, behaviour difficulties, and ASD.


Ann Gelsheimer MEd, DTS, MA, C. Psych. Assoc.
In addition to her work at the Chrysalis Centre, Ann Gelsheimer also works as a Psychological Consultant for the Upper Grand District School Board, providing consultation, staff training, and psychoeducational and mental health assessments for students in elementary, intermediate, and high school.  Additionally, Ann provides psychotherapy and psychoeducational assessments for children, teens, and adults in the community.  She served as a Professor, Disability Counsellor, and Coordinator of the Assessment and Brief Intervention Clinic at Seneca College for many years, and has worked extensively with children, teens, and adults with various cognitive, emotional, medical, and physical disabilities. Ann has completed professional training in using the ADOS-2, has made recommendations for school-based accommodations for students with ASD, and has taught students with ASD at college.


Dr. Avigail Ram, Ph.D., C. Psych.
Dr. Avigail Ram also currently works with the Toronto District School Board (TDSB). Dr. Ram’s practice focuses on the identification of learning profiles and developing appropriate intervention strategies for children and adolescents.  Additionally, Dr. Ram actively pursues an interest in the area of ASD. Through her association with the TDSB and the Autism Research Training (ART) program, she has been trained and has extensive experience in the assessment and diagnosis of ASD, including use of the Autism Diagnostic Observation Schedule (ADOS and ADOS-2) and Childhood Autism Rating Scale (CARS).  Through her connection with a number of special education classrooms and specialized school environments for children with ASD and/or other developmental disorders, along with training provided by The Behaviour Institute, she also has ample understanding and experience with the design of intervention programs for the behaviours that are often associated with these conditions (e.g., aggression, self harm, and/or sensory-based actions).


Kevin Reinhardt, MA, C. Psych. Assoc.
Kevin Reinhardt has trained and worked in disability and education since 1974. He has had experience working with individuals experiencing ASD through his work with Metro Toronto Community Living in vocational training with adults; with children and adolescents while working with Kinark Child and Family Services as a Supervisor of Educational Services, and most recently as a Counsellor, Professor and psycho-educational, psycho-vocational assessor with Seneca College. Kevin has recently completed a sabbatical where he researched the issues confronting persons experiencing ASD at the post-secondary level throughout Canada and the USA. He is trained in the use of ADOS, is currently delivering social skills therapy to teens through the PEERS UCLA Semel Institute program in conjunction with Autism Ontario, is consulting to Kerry’s Place on their Life Academy program and to York University on their ASD support pilot program. His current interests are in the Children’s Friendship Program, PEERS teen and PEERS young adult social skills therapy programs, sexuality and ASD issues, transition to post-secondary, post-secondary supports, and transition to work. In addition, Kevin is also the parent of a young adult who experiences ASD.


Dr. Jessica Schroeder, Ph.D., C. Psych. (Supervised Practice)
Dr. Schroeder has worked in the field of autism and developmental disabilities for over 10 years, with experience in intensive behaviour intervention (IBI/ABA), teaching, consultation, diagnosis, and research. Her dissertation research was funded by the Canadian Institutes of Health Research and explored social processing and bullying experiences of children with ASD. She helped to develop the Asperger Mentorship Program at York University for university students with ASD. Dr. Schroeder completed her pre-doctoral internship at the Hospital for Sick Children and her clinical practica at Centre for Addiction and Mental Health and Oshawa Psychological and Counselling Services.  Currently, Dr. Schroeder also works at the Durham Catholic District School Board. She is a member of the Ontario Psychological Association (OPA).
